50/50 . . .

i had my bi-monthly visit with my shrink this morning.  in the midst of our chatter, i mentioned an article i had read a few days ago by Oliver Sacks, a noted neurologist and author.   in the squib about his latest book, he wrote that fully 50% of all bereaved people have "comforting visits" from their dearly departed.  "Hallucinations don’t belong wholly to the insane." he explains.

my doctor meanwhile is nodding in agreement until i told her i felt cheated.  where were my hallucinations?  i want a visit from the 9TS.  i mean, dear Lord, i had a 50/50 chance and still nada.  go figure.

i love hallucinations, like the time they gave me phenergan in the hospital to offset the nausea from some pain medication.  i'm having a conversation with the doctor while watching a nonexistent exit sign outside the door fade away into oblivion.  evidently i was grinning because the doctor asked me if i was hallucinating and asked if i wanted something to combat it.  hell, no, i don't want them to stop.  this is the best fun since the um, 60's . . .

anyway, my shrink, who is quite used to me by now, cracks up and almost falls out of her chair laughing.  "In other words, you want me to give you an hallucinogenic, so you can chat with the 9TS?", she sputtered between bouts of the giggles.  "This is a first.",  she guffawed, water leaking from her eye lids.

no, i don't want drugs, i just want to be in the other 50%.   i'm tired of the one way conversations in this house.  i want my sloth to be able to respond.  is that too much to ask?

she quickly moved the conversation on to other things.  sigh.

tuesday . . .

does it get any better?

bearly awake . . .

why was i grocery shopping at 7 something this morning?  because Bear didn't understand the time change.  he only knew he was hungry.  ever try to sleep with a twenty pound lunk breathing in your face? i love you Bear, just not so much so early.

but, since i was awake, i went shopping and got home in time to catch a 4. something mile walk with Joanie.

two loads of laundry, a tango with the vacuum cleaner, and a bath later, i conked out.

please Bear, let me sleep tomorrow morning.

love mom.

artsy fartsy . . .

i love the fall down here.  besides the gorgeous weather, there is something going on every weekend.  today's offering was an art show down along the river.

not sure what you'd do with them but i love the whimsy.

our fine feathered friends were in attendance as well.
a bird of a different feather.
you have to admit, it's better than snow and ice.
of course there was food. there is always food.  slurp.
and that's it in a nutshell.  we drove home with the top down.

how i spent $12 walking for my health . . .

I'm on tonight, my hips don't lie
And I'm starting to feel you boy
Come on let's go, real slow
Baby, like this is perfecto

Oh, you know I'm on tonight and my hips don't lie
And I'm starting to feel it's right
The attraction, the tension
Baby, like this is perfection

Shakira, my hips don't lie either, we're just speaking a different language . . . oh boy and how.  Joanie and i, due to some scheduling conflicts, had a few weeks off from our walking.  this on top of an entire summer spent in the pool rather than trekking in the heat.  the weather last week was stunning and we over did it.  five miles meant we were both up in the middle of the night with aching hips.  although we were loathe to stop, we came to the sensible decision to slow down and work back up to five miles gradually.  very, very gradually.

so this morning we took off for what was meant to be a three miler and things were going great until we hit a garage sale.  why am i such a sucker for other peoples junk?  i have my own.  tons of it.  it overflows from every closet, shelve, nook and cranny, it sloughs out from under beds . . . but i am inexplicably drawn to my neighbors trash.

this time, it was a chandelier.   and it came with a history.  apparently, it was hung and lit at a party and all was going smashingly until a guest felt hot wax dripping down onto his pate.  not the type of soothing spa treatment he might have expected.  no wonder they were ridding themselves of this instrument of torture.

i kept staring at it.  i kept coming back to it.  i convinced myself i needed it.  we asked politely if they would hold it until we could sidle back home for the needed cash and return with the miata.  they of course, with visions of ridding themselves of the monstrosity, nodded their agreement.  i caught sight of them ringing their hands in glee.

it just fit in the trunk of the miata with nary and inch to spare . . . the culprit candles and all.

our exercise thus having been disrupted, we stashed the goods along with a $2 copy of Pioneer Woman Cooks and took off in another direction to finish our abbreviated walk.

what happened to said chandelier you ask?  i found it a home in the same room as my new door snake, the much munched tree and my parents antique dining room table:
just pretend you don't see the leather elephant in the corner or the monkey hook hanging from the ceiling.
can you think of a better way to display your $10 find.   hey, i hear you snickering . . .

i've been a little sporadic lately and i apologize but i have an excuse or two or three.

my first and least favorite was the funk i fell into for a couple or more days.  i'm usually fairly funk-resistant but this one sneaked up and sat on my head until i couldn't breathe.  i'll spare you the details.

my second excuse is even more far fetched.  my newest 'project' has been a month long diary/smash book detailing my adventures through the month of october.  i'd been working on the physical book since September but putting the actual events in blog form on my mac until the book was ready to have the dailies transferred over.  posting seemed rather redundant at the time until excuse #3 came knocking.

my mac blew its hard drive.  kaplooey!  gray screen of death.  nada.  while i had it backed up to Time Machine, it was only set for weekly, which was a life saver for jpegs, .pngs and documents but not so hot when you just lost 1/3 of your monthly project.  that said, i am back.

Kidlet misses the beasties when she is up north so i share Pippin stories as they happen . . . which is fairly often.  Here's her newest escapade:

Joanie brought me a present today for watching her cats while she was away or as Kidlet gasped, "you got a prize for burning down their house?"  thanks, Kidlet.  thanks a lot.  anyway, it was a wondrous and whimsical door snake for the door between the dining room and the man cave, to staunch the flow of air caused by the contractors little oops when the addition was discovered to not quite be flush with the main house . . .

cute snake:
and yes, for you purists out there, i had to retake this picture after dark.

scaredy cat peeking though the bannister:
and flattened out getting closer:
she would not go any closer until Ninji arrived and walked right up:
enough for one day . . . .
