Tuesday afternoon, after watching a marathon of Ina Garten, I was thirsting for one of her cookbooks. I asked the 9TS if he was up for a ride to B&N and he nodded agreeably. While on a roll, I asked him if HE would by me the cookbook. Again he nodded agreeably. As I sat on the floor in the cookbook aisle, surrounded by Ina's various offerings, I knew the sloth would head to the magazine section, specifically looking for this month's Model Railroad.
So there I was, OM position, five choices stacked in front of me. I glanced through each index checking out dinners, desserts and veggies, in that order and finally narrowed it down to two: Barefoot Contessa, At Home vs. Barefoot Contessa, How Easy is That? I was salivating over Jeffrey's chicken but when I got to the mocha chocolate icebox cake, the liquid was pouring out of my mouth, Red Velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing brought tears to my eyes. But on the other hand, book 2 offered Mustard Roasted Potatoes, and a new twist on my old favorite: Apple, Pear, Cranberry Crisp. The water dripping from my face.
What to do? They were both essential. Well, if I was going to pay for one before the 9TS's kind offer, I'd buy one and he'd buy one. Worked for me. Til the sloth saw both, shook his head knowingly and headed to check-out with both and his magazine. Thank.you.9TS.
So why you ask, do I want her cookbooks knowing most of the recipes are available on line? Yes, you in the back row, I heard that question. Because I devour cookbooks. I read them for hours. I survey the ingredients, dream of crockery, add parchment paper and cooking twine to my shopping list. I Google new varieties of apples, scour the net for "good" vanilla, search for the best deal on mini muffin pans.
Why? Because I enjoy it. It makes me happy to find something new the 9TS can tolerate. I love the lopsided grin on Kidlet's face when she knows a hot apple crisp with vanilla ice cream is on the menu. These are the moments, people, that make my world.
4.79 can you tell we have found a route we like?

yes, Kidlet, I was once 13 . . .
I went to summer camp when I was thirteen. My mother had died that winter and I think she and my father had plotted this escapade before hand . . . to keep me occupied. The other day, I was Googling images and typed in Camp Po-Ne-Mah, Happy Land for Girls. Yup, you read that correctly.
And then, it turns out, they have a Facebook group. Not only did I join, I posted a couple of beauts they were missing. And so, while I am making a fool of myself there, I thought I might just as well post them here too:
and yes, my middle name was gawky. Also gangly. Geeky would fit.

and on that note, I bid you a fond and embarrassed farewell.

ahn-wee . . .
EEK! All this time I have been pronouncing it en-ew-ee. Maybe because I have been so bored, I have been too lazy to look it up. Yes, folks, that's right, ennui has hit the cave.
Even though we both exploded out of bed at 12:52 Thursday night. Seems the Pipster finally managed to shove that adorable little bud vase we wanted to save . . . the one that housed my white carnations . . . right off the top of the bookcase onto the wood floor. Shards for miles. A hunkered down Pippin, wide eyed, not understanding the full ramifications of . . . if I push it just a little more . . . was peeking out from under the sofa.
Even though I was set up at Carrabba's last night but my brother-in-law and his significant other. The table was set with a complimentary glass of wine from them and some of Jen's oh so delightfully perfect chocolate drop cookies. These are to die for. Literally. They are THAT good. And a gorgeous box with THE perfect fall candle and soaps. And a card that asked me politely if I knew I had a birthday on 9/11. Jen was not a happy camper that I had not blabbed about my birthday and went into overdrive. Slurp!!!!
Those incidents aside, ennui abounds. After spending the entire summer housebound, we are totally, walking zombie, head twistingly bored. The 9TS has started walking around in circles and I am staring at piles of unfinished projects. Nothing is getting accomplished. Nada. No layouts. No sewing. No shots. No writing. I haven't walked in two days.
We need a jump start. Nothing quite so dramatic as a hurricane, thank.you.very.much, but something to rattle our cages. Any suggestions??
EDIT: Joanie called. Her guests have gone. Do I want to walk. 4.79. Yay!

out came the sun . . .
A rainy, dreary day is the best day for a massage and since Kidlet gave me money for one a long time ago and since I found a great deal on Groupon for a local day spa, today was the day . . . one and a half hours of aroma therapy, body massage, including hot rocks. Color me relaxed and stress free. Does it really get any better?

no one . . .
Monday: 4.25
Tuesday: 0.00 Instead, an hour and a half of, she's trying to kill us, yoga!
Remember what happened when Kidlet left us flowers when we headed to Tampa. They kept getting knocked over on the counter top by someone who shall not be mentioned.
Well, both the 9TS and Stacie gave me beautiful spring flowers . . . my fav . . . for my birthday. This time I put them on the Barrister bookcase in the living room . . . until I caught someone up there among the leaves and petals and shooed her down. Not mentioning names.
Finally, I moved them to the mantle. I've had seven cats in this house and NO ONE has managed the mantle piece. NO ONE. Until:
Kidlet caught she who must not be mentioned, in action.
And she, who apparently has no guilt, merely resampled the tasty petals once again.
This beastie has no conscience. None.

and playing . . .
Here's the picture I took with my iPhone the morning I was out chasing UFOs. I removed the balloons and the telephone wires and then found the most amazing moon brushes by Hawksmont . . . added a polaroid mask by Nancy Rowe Janitz and color me happy.
hee hee hee . . .
oh happy day . . .
it's raining, it's pouring, Jeanne is snoring!!! No walking today. Game called. I just love a rainy Sunday morning.
Yesterday, the 9TS and I went to the mall. While sloth fellow was off looking at beds at Macy's, I wandered around the bedding department. Huge sale. I finally found a set I liked. Comforter, dust ruffle, two king shams, two Euro shams, two decorator pillows:
A little out of focus but that is after all, how I live my life.
It was marked down 50% and if I opened a Macy's account, an additional 35% off. Score!!!! The only problem is that it is dry clean only but since Joanie bought me a cat hair eliminator, I can deal with the day to day hair and just have to send it out occasionally. YAY!!!!
We also went to lunch. Yummy chicken quesadilla. Solamente problemo? Mucho grande! Yo stuffo!

Friday's child is loving and giving . . .
We took off this morning for Old Time Pottery in Casselberry. Up one aisle and down another, through storage and rugs, pet toys, linens, glassware, tableware, dishes, kitchen, frames, mirrors, pillows, wall decor and art. Winding through Christmas, Halloween and Thanksgiving . . . furniture, fabric and flowers. We hoofed it for over two hours making sure we didn't miss a thing.
And then we needed to find lunch and couldn't decide, until we spied TooJays. EEEEEK, slam on the brakes, hard right turn, and through a menu chock full of the best pastrami, corned beef, liver, tongue and sundries south of NYC. My dill chicken salad came with their homemade rye and a mini black and white cookie hit the spot for dessert. Joanie had matzo ball soup and half of a chicken sammie. Then we waddled next door to Mimi's to try and score a pumpkin muffin for the Kidlet, but they won't be out until the first week in October.
I know I gained weight just reading the menus. Slurp!
So what exactly did I score. Nothing that exciting just a set of 12 napkins in a rusty red for my Thanksgiving table and a paper napkin holder that I have been looking for to stash my bills.
Joanie and I . . . two happy children loving to shop and giving back to the economy. YAY for Friday!!

catching up again . . . sigh . . .
Tuesday: Yoga and lunch day . . . hooray!!! My favorite day of the week. AND, the 9TS is eating full meals. Not all meals, but salads are palatable and he is happily partaking. Good for a sloth who lost 44 pounds compliments of chemo.
Wednesday: Pippin went to the vet. Pippin was pronounced seven perfect pounds. Pippin was preposterously petrified. What happened to my proud little puma? Poor Pippin. 0.00, my day off.
Thursday: We took the 9TS for a 4,000 mile checkup. He did well. And then we took him to the barbershop to trim his new billy goat's gruff:
p.s. Barber Joe and the 9TS share the same birthday . . . but the 9TS is one year older.

yesterday . . .
was a very good day in the cave. I am one year older and had fun getting there. Lots of chocolate. Family. Well wishes. Gifts. Homemade cards.
and a cat in a box:

things that drift past in the sky . . .
Joanie was taking a well deserved "plum lazy" day today so I took off hoofing it on my own. I had just decided my route when I looked up in the air and saw something odd wafting in the breeze slightly south of me. Since I still have not gotten my prescription updated, who knows what it was . . . but I was in hot pursuit. Curiosity you know. This was my first shot . . . please excuse the blurriness but who expected my iPhone would be used to chase UFOs:
of course I started speculating. green men from space. tiny dirigibles. heat seeking radar.
a flying fish. a NASA mission gone astray.
But finally after chasing it through two neighborhoods, it was evident that it was dropping lower and lower and would finally land within my reach. And it would have too, if it hadn't hit the trees first.
OK, so much for my espionage theories. But it was fun to chase. And someone, somewhere, is very sad to have lost their Mylar balloons.
2.49 UFO chasing miles.

good day in the cave . . .
* I dropped the 9TS off at the gym for his first visit in over six weeks. He didn't go to work out, he went to spend some time with his gym rat buds. Hooray!
*The pool guy came to check the leaking pump. It was only a worn o-ring. My pocketbook was very happy.
*Half my house is spotless. Christine needed a jack hammer and a power hose.
*And the best? Are you ready??? We went to Carrabba's for dinner!!! The 9TS couldn't eat much and in truth, just took me because I was missing it so much. But the BEST part was seeing our Jen again, and Christina, Hope, Jessica and Amber. Almost as good as being home.

oh no she didn't . . .
This afternoon, I washed the linens, removed the duvet from the comforter and washed it. I had just finished replacing the clean, fresh sheets when Ninja jumped on the bed and did one of those horrible drag your butt across the sheets routines. If you've ever had a dog or a cat, you know exactly what I am talking about. And of course that meant stripping the bed a second time and back to wash/rinse/dry.
Well, I guess I would do the same thing if I had a hair stuck in my butt. I know, TMI.
Speaking of hair . . . Kidlet headed out for a trim while she was home this weekend. She popped back in with her hoodie up??? Seems the trim got a little shorter, especially when her favorite hair cutter mentioned if they took it just a couple inches shorter, she would have the required 10" for Locks of Love. Yay, Kidlet!!!!! I am so proud of you.
Ninja, not so much.
4.91 or maybe it was 4.81 my brain has a tendency to slip. And definitely cooler this morning. YAY!!!

my intentions were good . . .
I set my alarm clock. I got dressed and outside ready to walk without the benefit of my sidekick and splat. It's raining. Not nice Mother Nature. I am trying to be good. But look what she left me instead:
Thank you MN, I needed that.

catching up . . .
Saturday: 5.56 and there was . . . dare I say it . . . a hint of less heat in the air. OK, so fall won't find its way to Florida for another month, but when it comes, it is glorious!!!
Sunday: 3.79. after yesterday's march, we opted for something short and sweet in the minimal two mile range until the 9TS looked at me plaintively and asked for two chocolate covered donuts . . . he is after all, a retired cop. No problemo. Duncan Donuts is right down the street . . . a tad over a mile. Easy peasy. Until I realized I had forgotten that they had moved. Sigh. But, anything for my sloth, and Joanie was a terrific sport. Tomorrow we are taking the day off and sleeping in.
Monday: 0.00 YAY!!! It's hot and muggy outside, but I am inside and not.
Tuesday: 6:30 a.m. Bang! Crash! Splat! The three of us head out running. There in the kitchen lays Kidlet's flowers one more time . . . sprawled across the kitchen table. Wetness abounds. The salt shaker intact but contents spilled . . . R.I.P. the pepper shaker, it did not survive the mass destruction. The paper napkin holder was sprawled on one chair, a place mat on another, napkins aflutter. Bear is running quickly in the opposite direction . . . Pippin quivering on the stairs. Hum!!!
Good thing today is yoga and lunch day. God bless Ativan.

HOME SWEET HOME . . .
let me say that again: HOME, HOW I MISSED YOU, SWEET HOME!!!!
The good news is we are back. The bad news is, the 9TS's symptoms are too. Who packed them in the car when we pulled out of Moffitt. TAKE THEM BACK!!!! Unbelievable. Un*%#^$*&#believable. Hopefully today will be better. Please, whoever is taking note . . . my husband is a good man, he doesn't deserve this.
OK, that was my rant for the day. Let's get to the better stuff:
*Kidlet left us a gorgeous bouquet of flowers on the kitchen counter with a sweet note written on a paper towel underneath. I was kind of surprised it made it all week unscathed. Turns out it didn't. Joanie, my beloved cat sitter came in on day two to find it tipped over and water everywhere. She hung the note to dry and refilled the thermos my enterprising kidlet had used as a vase. It stayed upright after that. Please note all eyes are on Pippin!!!!
*Kidlet brought me a huge supply of turtles from a candy shoppe up north. I ate half of them. YUMMO!
*3.90 miles this morning. The wild turkeys were loose again. They kept their distance and were traveling full steam ahead. Well, as fast as I think a turkey can run. Who knows. Do you?
*We found these adorable little 'shrooms tucked under a bush:
and yes, I am still in love with my hipstamatic app!
*Bear took my leaving the hardest. While he came out for Joanie, his nose was definitely out of joint with me. He hid under the bed until midnight last night. This morning he has finally forgiven me and is tucked back under my arm where he should be:
The End.
