cracked . . .

the house alarm system has been a little wonky of late.  it works.  but it spits out numbers i don't have from zones that don't exist.  normally this is not a problem but the other day, i had inadvertently left a window open and while the system usually tells me which contact is broken, this time it threw out numbers like a stuttering mad scientist.  it was time to get it checked.

just like a meddlesome car that fails to replicate its complaint while in the shop, my alarm system behaved itself this morning when the tech came to look at it.  i told the tech, it was probably going to have a little party as soon as he leaves and act up again.  he gave me that look.

you know the look.  the one that says, "are you quite mad?".  so i explained the simile of the car.  he hesitantly nodded.

i soldiered on.  "they are probably planning the party now.  i can just hear their happy little voices."  with that, he looked me right in the eye and asked, "do you often hear voices."

i could tell this wasn't going well.

anyway, he reset the panel just in case.  he called in for an alarm check, just in case. and he ran out the door, just in case.

sigh.
