chania, crete, greece . . .

happy birthday to carene and me!!

at breakfast with bob, sharon and carene, we took one look off the ship and decided that chania was not an option we wanted to explore and we headed off to catch some sun on the deck.  after a couple of hours, we decided what the heck, we're here, might as well and off we went to catch the local bus into town.

lesson learned.  chania has a gorgeous bay complete with light house, mosque and just packed with local restaurants.  take a look.
 stunning, yes?
 amazing!

and so we decided we needed to nosh at a bay side cafe. and nosh we did with meat sliders, chicken skewers, grilled veggies, greek pizza, sausage, cheese rollups, yogurt dip with bread, bruschetta, and some of our newly discovered mythos beer.

now here's the thing about good friends.  if they are mine, they are slightly cracked and need to be watched carefully, especially if there is alcohol around.  at the end of the meal, i excused myself and went upstairs to use the rest room . . .  this one had a seat and toilet paper and even paper towels.  when i returned to the table, management had gifted us with a carafe of a concentrated wine product and four shot glasses.  think ouzo.  the others had poured and downed theirs.  my turn.  bob poured and i shot it.  good grief.  talk about a slow burn to the gut and those fools were rolling in their chairs.  they had sipped some and spit it out.  but, here's the thing, my tummy likes that slow burn and the resulting spreading warmth so guess who had a second shot.  gotta love my friends.

back on the ship, our waitress brought birthday cakes for the two of us.  chocolate on chocolate on chocolate.  yummy.  indeed a happy birthday.  oh and they decorated our doors!!
happy day.  thank you my friends.
